Becoming A Teacher
Teachers in the Steiner Academy have completed either a Steiner teacher education course, or a state teacher training programme, or, in some cases, both.
There is a range of teacher education pathways in the Steiner Waldorf movement in Britain and Ireland. Course provision includes publicly funded, University-accredited programmes (University of Plymouth) and privately funded courses at Emerson College and Steiner House in London. Some schools also offer small-scale training opportunities.
Training courses in early childhood care and education and class teaching are currently available.
The national schools organisation – the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship (SWSF) – supports courses and programmes seeking forms of public accreditation. SWSF is not an accrediting body itself. Tutors from the different teacher education programmes meet together to study, research and support each other.
